While taking suboxone, why is someone considered clean. Isnt subxone a narcotic? Is this just like a methadone program for heroin?

Why are u clean, while still taking a narcotic?

Thanks,

bigslick

I guess everyone has their own definition of clean. For me, clean is almost indefinable. I too think about suboxone and wonder how successful I can really call myself while taking it.

In the end, time is really the only definition of clean. As each day passes it becomes another milestone in our journey. The reason I finally settled on considering myself clean while taking suboxone, is the way I use suboxone.

It would be one thing if I got the script filled and saved up the pills for times when I'd be junksick. Or if I was taking more suboxone than was prescribed to me (although I think suboxone has a dosage cap?) or if I had found some way to shoot it up. All of the previous examples involve using suboxone in the same or a similar way to using smack.

I think I can call myself clean now, even though I take suboxone, because when I wake in the morning I'm not thinking about smack. When I take the medicine....well, when i take the medicine i'm much more worried about controlling the gag reflex....but anyway my point was to say that because I am not abusing suboxone, because none of my familiar addict habits are related to it, I feel free.

Even if at the end of the day I'm addicted to suboxone, I'm not addicted to smack. To me, this is what matters.

I know that suboxone will be the "final frontier" (stole that from dr.moss). But the way I look at it is this:

As a junkie I was drowning in a pool

As a suboxone patient I have water wings and a swim teacher

Eventually, I will be strong enough to pop my inflatable wings and swim to the ladder in the deep end.

I haven't really picked one that I like best... it seems to be helpful because it's a large group of people. Although I'm not sure how much they incorporate the 12 step thing...I suppose it depends on the chapter.

I'd go to group therapy but it's too expensive...na is free :)
